Vision inspired leadership

The word vision featured on a clear ballLeading is about believing. Believing in your vision, your people and your organisation as a whole. As a leader it is important to have strategic goals and targets, however if you do not believe in the underlying purpose of what you do, it will be difficult to maintain long-term motivation for both you and your people. Having the ability to lose yourself in your purpose is critical to you reaching your full potential as a leader.

This article ‘We Is Bigger Than Me’ by Bill Taylor clearly identifies why it is important that leaders understand their ‘greater purpose’ and why they do what it is that they do.  While self-fulfilment is a key attribute in discovering your purpose, I believe the real measure of success is defined by how you lead the people you lead. Building and growing a team that believes in a common purpose and company vision and values, can go a long way towards achieving success. And discovering how you can help more people will give you a better sense of meaning and direction. As a leader, your time should be focused on things bigger than yourself.

Finally, let me leave you with a quote by author, speaker and consultant, Simon Sinek, “Great companies don’t hire skilled people and motivate them, they hire already motivated people and inspire them”. It is your job as a leader to provide that inspiration.  This will leave you with a sense of fulfilment as you have contributed to a purpose much bigger than you could have ever imagined. I challenge you to leave a legacy you are proud to call your own.
